On August 21, working negotiations were held at the "Uzatom"
agency with the participation of relevant ministries and departments of
Uzbekistan and a Kazakh delegation. The Kazakh delegation was led by Vice
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mansur Oshurbayev. This was reported
by the "Uzatom" agency.
At the meeting, Uzbek organizations participating in the NPP project
presented the progress of project, survey, and preparatory work, as well as
approaches to ensuring safety and environmental monitoring.
"Safety is the undeniable priority of Uzbekistan's national nuclear
program. We are consistently establishing a nuclear, radiation, and
environmental safety system in accordance with national legislation and
international standards," said Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, Director of the
"Uzatom" Agency.
During the working meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the
Ministry of Ecology, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan
answered questions from the Kazakh side. The parties discussed the technical
and environmental aspects of the project.
At the end of the meeting, the main directions of future cooperation,
including a "roadmap" and subsequent steps, were agreed upon.
Additionally, issues regarding the establishment of educational and
practical training for specialists from Central Asian countries, organizing
simulator training in modern laboratories, and initiating expert consultations
on developing national nuclear infrastructure were discussed.
The Uzbek side also presented the concept of a specialized center designed
to combine knowledge and experience in nuclear energy in the region. The center
will focus on strengthening the culture of nuclear and radiation safety,
improving the regulatory framework, and increasing the social acceptability of
peaceful atoms.
The parties confirmed their readiness to regularly continue expert dialogue
and strengthen cooperation on the safe and responsible development of peaceful
nuclear energy in the region.
