The
document is aimed at developing cooperation in such key areas as ensuring
radiation and nuclear safety, licensing and inspection activities, improving
the regulatory framework, emergency preparedness and emergency response, as
well as enhancing the qualifications of specialists and professional exchange
of experience.
The
memorandum will contribute to expanding information and expert exchange between
the regulatory authorities of the two countries and will help ensure reliable
safety when using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
The
memorandum was signed by A. Rafikov, Chairman of the Committee on Industrial,
Radiation and Nuclear Safety, and H. K. Nieh, Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear
Regulatory Commission (NRC).
