Compensation of over 8.5 billion soums has been accrued for the leakage of oily liquid in the Baysun region

Earlier it was reported that an oily liquid got into the river in the Baysun district of Surkhandarya region, and this case is being studied by the State Environmental Control Inspectorate (Ecopolice) of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.

During the study, it was found that in the Baysun region, a well belonging to the joint venture Surxan Gas Chemical Operating Company LLC had a release of liquid containing petroleum products. To prevent this liquid from entering a natural reservoir, 11 trenches were dug and placed by a joint venture using special equipment from Eriell Oilfield Services Middle East DMCC.

During further investigation, it was also established that on April 23, as a result of heavy precipitation in the Baysun region, 1.2 tons of liquid containing petroleum products entered the Hongaronsoy canal. As a result, according to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 202 dated April 12, 2021, the amount of compensation payments amounted to over 8.5 billion soums.

Currently, the consequences of the incident have been eliminated, the water has been cleaned of oily liquid. The situation is also being studied, and upon completion of the process, the collected documents will be transferred to law enforcement agencies for a legal assessment of what happened.
