According to preliminary data, the cause of the collapse was heavy rains, which weakened the stability of volcanic rocks. Fragments of the rock fell on nearby people.
Rescuers, firefighters, medics and law enforcement officers were working at the site. The search and rescue operation has been completed. Four of the five injured have already been discharged from the hospital.
The authorities warn of the risk of repeated collapse of the remaining overhanging parts of the cliff.
The tragedy occurred on October 29, the Day of the Republic of Turkey, when many tourists and locals were in Cappadocia.
