More than 100 dead seals found on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan

112 dead Caspian seals were found during an inspection of the coast of the Tupkaragan region of Kazakhstan.

KazTAG is informed by the press service of the Department of Ecology of Mangystau region. Animal carcasses were found in the area from the settlement of Asan to Cape Bautino.

The reasons for the mass death of seals are not clear. Specialists of the laboratory and analytical control department of the Department collected seawater in the area of Fort Shevchenko and Bautino settlements.

The mass death of Caspian seals in Kazakhstan is not the first time. The fisheries committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the country reported that the total number of dead seals found from November 2024 to May 2025 was 2,194. In February 2025, the Kazakhstan Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research (CAIER) announced its intention to create a database on Caspian seals to study the causes of their mass extinction. kommersant.ru.
