Members of the Parliament of Uzbekistan participate in the forum in Istanbul

    On June 22, 2022, a forum on the topic "The role of women in the parliaments of Central Asian States in the implementation of national plans to combat terrorism and prevent violent extremism" began its work in Istanbul (Turkey).

    The event was organized by the UN Counterterrorism Center under the UN Counterterrorism Office together with the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.

    The forum is attended by women of the parliaments of five Central Asian states, including members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and security services, international organizations and civil society.

    The Forum is aimed at intensifying the efforts of women parliamentarians in Central Asia to prevent violent extremism.

    During the event, the issues of the UN architecture for combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism, gender issues in the process of combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism, issues of involving women leaders and women parliamentarians in the context of combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism were considered.

    During the forum, representatives of the Oliy Majlis paid special attention to the work carried out in the republic to ensure gender equality, empower women and girls, and provide comprehensive support to young people.

    In addition, the experience of the Republic of Uzbekistan in returning from combat zones in the Middle East and Afghanistan to their homeland and rehabilitating their citizens, especially women and children, was particularly noted, the information service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
