Issues of improving mahallas are considered

On June 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of proposals for ensuring the improvement of mahallas.

In Uzbekistan, all programs are implemented at the mahalla level. This system has been given great powers and opportunities. Therefore, the improvement and environment in mahallas must meet the requirements.

Currently, there are about 10,000 mahallas in the country. Of these, almost 3,000 consist of apartment buildings serviced by 821 management service companies. In more than 6,400 mahallas, where private houses are located, improvement and landscaping are mainly carried out through hashars.

Therefore, it was proposed to create mahalla service companies in such places. According to the proposal, these organizations will be engaged in improving mahallas, ensuring the cleanliness of streets and ditches, and planting and caring for trees. They will also provide services for the repair of utility networks and the sorting and removal of waste on a contractual basis.

The service company will be selected from among qualified entrepreneurs based on the decision of the mahalla council. Improvement works will be carried out by order and under the control of the mahalla. To pay for the services of service companies, mahalla citizen assemblies will be allocated 20 million UZS monthly. They will also be able to provide the population with more than 20 different paid social services.

In general, this system will bring prosperity to the mahalla and increase the culture of cleanliness and involvement among people. Employment of artisans and temporarily unemployed citizens will be provided.

During the presentation, it was noted that service companies will initially be created in 208 mahallas as an experiment. Based on the experiment’s results, it was proposed to implement this experience in all mahallas.
