CIS Heads of Government meet via videoconference

    On November 6, a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, chaired by the Republic of Uzbekistan, took place via videoconference.

    The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov.

    The event was attended by the Prime Ministers of Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister of Russia, the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, the Acting President and Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

    Participants of the meeting focused on the current issues of economic cooperation within the CIS, as well as joint actions in the effective fight against the spread of coronavirus infection. The importance of full-fledged work of the free economic zone of the Commonwealth of Independent States was noted.

    The Heads of Government exchanged views on the cuurent issues of economic cooperation between the states of the Commonwealth, discussed the Action Plan for the implementation of the first stage (2021-2025) of the CIS Economic Development Strategy 2030.

    Participants of the meeting paid special attention to the situation around the coronavirus pandemic. In particular, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev noted that Uzbekistan, in terms of the number and ratio of deaths as a result of this disease, showed the most positive indicators not only in the CIS, but also on a global scale, serves as an example in the effective fight against the epidemic and mitigation of the negative impact of the pandemic on the country’s economy.

    Following the meeting, the Heads of Government signed 23 documents aimed at developing the transport sector, construction industry, energy, education, tourism, sports and culture, as well as youth policy.

    The next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government is scheduled for May 28, 2021 in the city of Minsk under the chairmanship of Belarus.
