The popular French Brand La Roche-Posay has faced a serious problem: a dangerous carcinogen has been found in its acne cream.
According to Bloomberg, cosmetics manufacturer L'Oréal is forced to urgently recall the entire line of Effaclar Duo products. The reason for this decision lies in a component called benzoyl peroxide, which is used to fight bacteria and treat acne.
Under certain conditions, this substance can decompose to form benzene, a dangerous compound that can cause the development of leukemia and other cancers with prolonged exposure, writes RuNews24.
Although the US Environmental Protection Agency claims that the risk of developing cancer from using these cosmetics is minimal, L'Oréal is taking drastic measures. The company is not only withdrawing the remaining products from sale, but also intends to develop a new formula for acne products that meets all necessary safety standards.
This is not the first such case: over the past four years, the Valisure laboratory, which discovered the problem, has already detected the presence of benzene in products from other well-known brands, including Clinique, Clearasil and Proactiv. In their assortment, contaminated ingredients were found in creams, deodorants, dry shampoos and antiseptics.
