The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that the decision was made following consultations between the Organizing Committee for the AFC Asian Cup, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
Initially, the tournament was planned to run from January 7 to February 5, 2027.
The rescheduling of the tournament dates was driven by force majeure circumstances linked to the regional situation, including severe logistical complexities and travel disruptions.
The AFC emphasized that extraordinary circumstances arose that impacted the organization and hosting of the competition within its originally scheduled timeframe. Consequently, postponing the tournament was determined to be the most viable decision for participating teams, officials, spectators, and key stakeholders.
The new tournament dates remain subject to final approval by FIFA.
The AFC expressed its appreciation for the ongoing efforts of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Local Organizing Committee toward delivering a premier tournament for Asian players and fans.
The Confederation stated it will continue to work closely with participating member associations, sponsors, broadcast entities, and commercial partners.
Further updates regarding the competition will be announced through official AFC channels.
