President of Uzbekistan receives Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

    On April 5, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Uzbekistan on a working visit.

    The current state and prospects of development of cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, transport-logistics and other spheres were discussed.

    The Head of the state noted with satisfaction the progressive development of Uzbekistan – Iran relations in the difficult conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

    In turn, Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome, conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani.

    Special attention was paid to the issues of economic cooperation, the development of trade relations and the promotion of new cooperation projects.

    The importance of increasing cooperation in the transport-communication sphere, including the effective use of Iranian seaports and the development of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor was noted.

    Current aspects of the international and regional agenda of mutual interest, including issues of ensuring regional security and promoting the peace process in Afghanistan, were also discussed.

    The Iranian Foreign Minister highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s efforts to promote peace talks on Afghanistan and to involve the country in the regional trade-economic cooperation.
