President of Uzbekistan takes part in the CSTO Summit

    On August 23, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part as a guest in an extraordinary session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on the situation in Afghanistan, via videoconference.

    The meeting, chaired by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, was attended by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas.

    During the session, a thorough exchange of views took place on the emerging situation in neighboring Afghanistan, as well as measures that are taken to respond to challenges and threats to stability in the region.

    The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan informed the meeting participants about the ongoing activities to promote regional security, including reliable security and protection of the State Border with Afghanistan.

    The Leader of Uzbekistan noted with satisfaction the established fruitful interaction and prompt exchange of information with the involved structures of the states of the region in the Afghan direction.

    Following the summit, an agreement was reached to continue joint consultations and regular exchange of information on the situation in the region.
