Presidents of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea talk over the phone

    On October 6, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in.

    The President of Uzbekistan on behalf of the multi-ethnic people of Uzbekistan and on his own behalf cordially congratulated President Moon Jae-in and friendly Korean people on the National Foundation Day and traditional Chuseok holiday, expressing warm wishes for peace, wellbeing and prosperity.
    Leaders of Uzbekistan and South Korea discussed in detail the state and prospects for further development of bilateral relations of special strategic partnership, as well as exchanged views on the current issues of international politics.
    The importance of continuing active interaction and regular productive dialogue at different levels to minimize the consequences of the global spread of coronavirus for Uzbekistan – Korea multifaceted cooperation was noted.
    The President of Uzbekistan also sincerely thanked his colleague for practical assistance provided by South Korea in organizing an effective fight against the pandemic and introducing best practices in prevention and treatment of this disease.
    An agreement was reached on further close coordination at the level of ministries of health and other relevant organizations, including in improving treatment methods, developing and ensuring access to vaccines.
    Special attention was paid to the preparation of the agenda for the upcoming high-level meetings.
    The Presidents considered trade, economic and investment cooperation issues, creating favorable conditions for the growth of trade turnover and strengthening cooperation, including expanding the necessary legal framework and promoting business initiatives.
    Governments of the two countries were instructed to continue to fully support 65 joint projects of investment, financial-technical and humanitarian cooperation, primarily socially significant programs in health and education through Korea International Cooperation Agency and Economic Development and Cooperation Fund.
    In addition, coordinated measures will be taken to increase the portfolio of promising projects with participation of leading companies and banking-financial institutions of Uzbekistan and South Korea, which currently exceeds $4 billion.
    Following the conversation, heads of state reaffirmed their strong commitment to further strengthening multifaceted relations based on strong relations of centuries-old friendship and promoting full-scale practical cooperation.
    The conversation between the leaders has taken place in a traditionally warm, constructive and friendly atmosphere.
