Leaders of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan visit the Medeu Ski Cluster

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, visited the Medeu Ski Cluster.

The Leader of Uzbekistan was introduced to the history and architectural features of the Medeu dam, which was constructed at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level to protect the area from mudflows.

Leading to the top of the dam is the “Stairway to Health”, consisting of 842 steps. In 2011, a 4.5-kilometer-long cable car was built near the dam, connecting it to the Shymbulak Ski Resort.

The Medeu Sports Complex, constructed in 1972, is situated at an elevation of 1,700 meters above sea level. The ice field covers an area of 10,500 square meters and can accommodate up to 3,000 people. Each year, it attracts more than 400,000 residents and visitors to Almaty.

Today, the complex operates as a hub for sports, tourism, and culture. It regularly hosts sporting competitions, public ice skating sessions, cultural events, and festivals.

In 2011, the complex was a venue for the 7th Asian Winter Games, and in 2017, it hosted competitions during the Winter Universiade.

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan jointly attended a performance by young figure skaters.
