Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkey talk over the phone

    On May 12, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

    The Presidents exchanged heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the Ramadan Hayit. The leaders emphasized the special role and significance of this holiday for all Muslims and expressed sincere wishes for peace, wellbeing and prosperity to the two fraternal peoples.

    The Leaders discussed in detail the current bilateral agenda. The consistent development of multifaceted cooperation in the difficult conditions of the coronavirus pandemic was noted.

    Intensification of exchanges and contacts at various levels was noted. Since the beginning of this year, trade has grown by 40 percent, 164 new joint ventures have been created, and interaction between the regions is being established. The Turkish Consulate has started operating in Samarkand. Joint cultural and humanitarian programs are being implemented, in particular in education, cinematography and sports.

    The Heads of state noted the importance of careful preparation for the second meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council in Uzbekistan.

    To this end, next month Tashkent will host a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and a business forum.

    The progress in the implementation of joint investment projects in industry, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, tourism, healthcare and other spheres was considered.

    The leaders exchanged views on international politics.

    The Presidents expressed their concern over the escalation of the situation in East Jerusalem. It was emphasized that the solution to the Palestinian-Israeli problem should be carried out peacefully following the norms of international law and based on previously adopted resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

    The main attention was paid to interaction within the framework of the Turkic Council, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other structures.

    The conversation between the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkey took place in a traditionally open, friendly and confidential atmosphere.
