Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkey talk over the phone

    On May 23, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

    Heads of states exchanged warm congratulations on the occasion of Ramadan Hayit (Eid al-Fitr), which is a holiday of joy and thanksgiving, generosity and kindness for the entire Muslim world. The leaders wished each other and fraternal peoples of the two countries wellbeing and prosperity.
    The leaders of the two countries highlighted issues on bilateral agenda. Close partnership in the fight against current challenges and threats was noted with satisfaction.
    Mutual support was expressed for the decisive measures taken in both countries to counter the spread of coronavirus, anti-crisis program being implemented to minimize the negative consequences of this dangerous disease, provide targeted support to the population and promote development of key sectors of the economy and business.
    President of Uzbekistan expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of Turkey for practical assistance provided in the fight against the pandemic, as well as in connection with the emergency at Sardoba Reservoir.
    During the conversation, main attention was paid to enhancing Uzbekistan – Turkey multifaceted relations, primarily in trade-economic, investment, transport and communication spheres.
    Uzbekistan and Turkey are interested in developing effective regional transport corridors, including the active use of Baku – Tbilisi – Kars railway, as well as creating favorable conditions for increasing the volume of cargo transportation.
    The importance of timely implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, including the decisions of the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council held in Ankara at the beginning of the year, was noted.
    The need for continuing joint activities, including within the framework of bilateral Intergovernmental Commission, maintaining the dynamics of trade indicators and promoting priority investment projects in various sectors of the economy with participation of leading companies and banks of Uzbekistan and Turkey was emphasized.
    A number of current issues of regional cooperation and international policy were also discussed during the talks.
    Presidents highly appreciated the fruitful results of online meetings of the heads of the Ministries of Health, Economy, Trade and Transport of the Turkic Council countries.
    The conversation took place in a traditionally open, constructive and friendly atmosphere.
