The total number of visually impaired persons in Uzbekistan has been announced

    As of November 1, 2025, the total number of visually impaired persons with disabilities across the Republic amounts to 25 558.

    This was reported by the National Agency of Social Protection.

    It is noted that the National Agency of Social Protection systematically works to support visually impaired persons, ensuring their independent living, education, participation in labor activities, and full inclusion in social life.

    Specifically, a barrier-free environment was created and tactile paving was installed in 340 social, public service, and commercial facilities.

    In all regions 18 busy intersections, as well as an additional 753 traffic lights were equipped with audible signal devices.

    Across the Republic, 3 171 blind and partially sighted students are studying in 17 specialized schools.

    Over the past 10 months of 2025, a total of 7 756 needy persons with visual impairments have been preferentially provided with the following rehabilitation aids:

    Prosthetic eyeballs (115);

    Canes for the blind (4,835);

    Braille alphabet (101);

    Writing devices for the Braille alphabet (111);

    Audible tonometers (3 588);

    Audible thermometers (3 243);

    Audible glucometers (162).

    Furthermore, 13 472 citizens with visual disabilities are engaged in adaptive sports such as chess, checkers, 5x5 football and others.
