Arrest warrants have been issued in Germany for six people suspected of blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipeline in 2022. According to the investigation, all possible perpetrators of the operation have been identified, and they are citizens of Ukraine. This was reported by the German media on Wednesday, August 27.
A joint investigation by Die Zeit, Suddeutsche Zeitung and ARD TV channel found that four divers were involved in the preparation of the explosions, including one woman, an explosives specialist, as well as the skipper and coordinator of the operation. The coordinator was detained in Italy, and Germany is currently seeking his extradition. He is charged with unconstitutional sabotage, bombing and destroying buildings, which can lead to a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
It is reported that one of the likely participants in the operation died at the front, while the rest may be hiding in Ukraine. They tried to detain one of the suspects in Poland, but he escaped using the car of the Ukrainian military attaché. At the same time, Germany has not yet sent an official request for the extradition of other suspects to the Ukrainian authorities.
According to the material, the German government is trying to keep its distance from this investigation. The journalists note that the conclusions of the investigation create political tension for Friedrich Merz's cabinet. However, the Ukrainian side denies any involvement in the sabotage. korrespondent.net.
