A potentially dangerous asteroid 2025 PM with a diameter of 50 meters will pass close to Earth on August 17, it will be located only twice as far from the planet as the Moon rotates, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported.

"According to calculations, asteroid 2025 PM with a diameter of 50 meters will pass the day after tomorrow, August 17, at a distance of about one diameter of the lunar orbit (approximately 770 thousand kilometers) from Earth. Due to its unusually close approach to the planet, the celestial body is among the dangerous asteroids," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that this category includes bodies approaching the Earth at a distance closer than 10 diameters of the lunar orbit. In addition, it will be one of the largest that has recently approached the Earth at a distance of less than a million kilometers. A flyby of a larger body at a comparable distance is expected this year only once more - at the end of September. ria.ru.
