On March 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Republican boarding house for war and labor veterans. He got acquainted with the living conditions and treatment of the elderly.

The Head of the state talked with the veterans living in the boarding house.

“I am very glad to be here and meet such worthy people who have given so much effort and labor for the sake of the Motherland. Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate our venerable mothers and doctors on the upcoming holiday March 8”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

Residents and staff of the boarding house thanked the Head of the state for the visit and the attention paid to the older generation.

138 elderly people are taken under state care in the boarding house for war and labor veterans. The President gave instructions to the responsible persons on the construction of a new building in the boarding house for holding cultural events, as well as organizing a park on 3 hectares adjacent to the boarding house.

Heads of local executive authorities and social institutions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regions also participated in the meeting via videoconference. The issues of improving conditions, medical and social services in Sakhovat and Muruvvat houses in the country were discussed.

“We will hold today’s meeting differently. We will discuss measures to improve not only this boarding house, but also all 34 Sakhovat and Muruvvat houses in the country. There are 9 thousand 700 places in them. 8 840 elderly people are currently living and receiving treatment. But no one visited these houses, they were remembered only on holidays, there was no order. These people need love and care. Our country will prosper with their blessing”, the President said.

It was emphasized that for this purpose it is necessary to transfer the Agency for Medical and Social Services under the Ministry of Health to the structure of the Cabinet of Ministers. An order was given to carry out construction and repair work in institutions that are in poor condition, modernize medical equipment, and organize modern physiotherapy departments.

“It is necessary to revise the previous standards, increase the provision of medicines to citizens living in these institutions, improve the quality of food, and outsource cooking. It is also possible to secure nearby hospitals and schools to visit the elderly. This is also attention, kindness. If we take more care of the sick, they will recover quickly”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The importance of providing each institution with a bus, organizing trips to sights and shrines of the country, concert programs and clubs of interest was noted.

The Federation of Trade Unions has been tasked with organizing once a year the rehabilitation of all residents of Sakhovat houses in the best sanatoriums of the country.

Noting the selfless activity of the workers of Sakhovat and Muruvvat houses in caring for their wards, the President ordered to increase their wages.
