The President of Panama refused to discuss the channel's affiliation with the US Secretary of State

Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino refused to discuss the ownership of the Panama Canal with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is on a visit to the country on Saturday.

"Regarding [discussing the issue of ownership of] the channel: this is not possible. I cannot negotiate, much less begin the negotiation process through the channel. The issue is closed, the channel belongs to Panama," Mulino said about the upcoming talks with the head of the American diplomatic department during a weekly press conference broadcast by local television.

Rubio will travel to Panama on Saturday. As Bloomberg reported, citing sources, the Secretary of State also intends to make stops in Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador.

The President of Panama indicated that the agenda of the meeting with Rubio has not yet been determined. tass.ru.

"We have common issues that we can certainly agree on: migration, drug trafficking, money laundering, increased exports of drugs that pass through our waters to the United States, where there is a market," said Mulino.
