The results of the regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Interregional Forum, and the meeting of the Business Council that took place on the eve of the visit were noted with satisfaction. Rectors of leading universities and heads of medical institutions met before this.
The President of Uzbekistan drew journalists’ attention to qualitative changes in cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus in recent years. An intensification of contacts at all levels, an increase in trade turnover, cooperation projects, the resumption of cultural and humanitarian exchanges, and direct flights were noted.
The leaders noted that detailed negotiations took place, a wide range of relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus were discussed, priorities and targets for developing a multifaceted partnership were identified.
The commitment to deepening the dialogue within the framework of regional and international organizations – the United Nations, the CIS, and the SCO – was confirmed.
Particular attention was paid to issues of increasing trade turnover. The two countries’ leaders set the goal of increasing its volume to more than $1 billion in the coming years.
For these purposes, an agreement was reached to create a joint foreign trade company and introduce mechanisms to support trade supplies.
Priority areas of industrial cooperation have been identified. These are the agro-industrial complex, electrical and textile industries, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, urban planning, and public utilities.
Special attention was paid to the effective use of the potential and opportunities of interregional contacts.
Active exchanges will continue in culture, art, higher and professional education, tourism, youth, and sports. Specific areas of cooperation in healthcare were outlined.
The parties agreed to organize regular medical, educational, and tourism forums.
Confidence was expressed that the reached agreements and signed documents would help strengthen the friendship between Uzbekistan and Belarus and fill the multifaceted partnership with specific practical content.
