This was announced on December 16 by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on its Facebook page.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the incident with the sinking of a ship with illegal migrants heading from one of the neighboring countries to Greece on December 7, 2025. There were 34 illegal migrants from different countries on board, including 14 Egyptians who did not survive," the publication says.

The ministry expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged citizens "not to succumb to the persuasions of gangs involved in illegal migration, so as not to endanger their lives."
