The Law "On limiting Greenhouse Gas emissions" was considered at the plenary session.

It was noted that in recent years, some work has been carried out in the country to prevent climate change and reduce its negative consequences.

However, currently the lack of legislation and regulatory framework regulating greenhouse gas emissions limits the possibilities of establishing international cooperation in economic, technological and environmental areas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the republic.

This, in turn, requires bringing this area in line with the requirements of international documents and improving its organizational and legal framework.

The Law focuses on establishing the procedure for the conversion of carbon units resulting from the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as ensuring systematic control of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Law defines the basic principles of limiting greenhouse gas emissions, the basis and procedure for their monitoring, reporting and verification, as well as the rights to own reduced greenhouse gases.

The senators noted that the adoption of the Law serves to ensure that Uzbekistan fulfills its commitments made on the basis of the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate the reforms carried out in the country in the field of climate change, create the necessary conditions for improving the environment and ecology, as well as the sustainable development of the country's economy.

In addition, it will create a solid foundation for the effective implementation of Uzbekistan's bilateral cooperation projects with foreign countries in the field of climate change and greenhouse gas reduction.

At the end of the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
