Reform strategy of banking system was approved

    The Decree of the President “On the reform of the strategy of the banking system of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020–2025” was adopted.

    The Decree defines the main directions of reforming the banking sector in Uzbekistan.

    In particular, one of the main directions of reforming the banking sector is to increase the efficiency of the banking system by reducing the dependence of banks on state resources and phasing out non-core functions of banks.

    The strategy for reforming the banking system of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020–2025 has been approved and targets have been set for implementing the strategy.

    The targets include, in particular, the following:

    - increasing the share of banks' assets without a state share in the total assets of the banking system from the current 15 percent to 60 percent by 2025;

    - increasing the share of bank liabilities to the private sector in the total volume of liabilities from the current 28 percent to 70 percent by the end of 2025;

    - Attraction by 2025 of at least three strategic foreign investors with the appropriate experience, knowledge and reputation in the capital of at least three banks with a state share;

    - increasing the share of non-bank credit organizations in the total volume of lending from the current 0.35 percent to 4 percent by 2025.
