According to amendments made
to the Law "On the State Border," citizens' electronic devices can
now be inspected upon entry to or exit from the country. Under the new
regulations, border officials have the right to examine the appearance of
mobile phones, tablets, and laptops, and to demand that they be presented for
inspection if necessary.
It is reported that these
inspections will not be conducted on all citizens, but rather in cases where
there is suspicion of a violation or when deemed necessary for security
purposes. Non-compliance with these requirements can lead to a fine of
5,000–7,000 rubles or administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
Officials noted that these
measures were introduced to combat terrorism and illegal migration, as well as
to ensure national security. Experts advise citizens to review the data on
their gadgets before traveling and to pay close attention to personal
information security.
