According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, earlier, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that Ashgabat intends to promote the most effective implementation of the CIS potential. According to him, the country considers the chairmanship as a sign of respect and trust from the participating states, as well as recognition of Turkmenistan's contribution to the development of the Commonwealth.
The Head of State also noted that Turkmenistan plans to develop a concept for its CIS presidency, which will reflect priorities and approaches to further development of interstate cooperation, taking into account current needs.
Turkmenistan is an associate member of the CIS. The previous time the country headed the bodies of the Commonwealth was in 2019.
