Samarkand is one of the largest regions of the country in terms of population size and growth rates. This means a growing need for housing, infrastructure, jobs, education, and healthcare. Over the past eight years, 1,132 apartment buildings have been constructed in the region, improving housing conditions for 56,000 families. The coverage of preschool education has increased from 21 to 73 percent, and higher education from 10 to 45 percent.
The textile industry, metallurgy, electrical engineering sector, building materials production, and tourism are developing rapidly in the economy. The implementation of large-scale projects, construction, and the creation of high-income jobs are strengthening the population’s confidence in the future.
The poverty rate in the region has decreased from 7.5 percent to 6.9 percent since the beginning of the year. By the end of the year, it is planned to employ 150,000 people and lift 90,000 citizens out of poverty.
Over the past eight years, the volume of industrial production in the region has increased 1.7 times and exceeded 45 trillion UZS. However, 37 percent of this volume is concentrated in the city of Samarkand, and 23 percent in Jomboy, Samarkand, and Urgut districts. At the same time, industry remains underdeveloped in Kushrabad, Payaryk, and Nurabad districts.
At the initiative of the President, a reform headquarters has also been established in Samarkand region. During the presentation, information was provided on new projects developed based on proposals from entrepreneurs.
Thus, it is proposed to establish a special industrial zone on 115 hectares in Nurabad district. Investment projects worth $472 million are planned to be implemented there, creating 1,200 jobs. In Kushrabad district, a Chinese investor intends to invest $40 million in the extraction and processing of granite stone.
An entrepreneur from Bulungur has organized an in vitro laboratory and launched the creation of a seed potato brand. In the same district, the construction of a biopharmaceutical enterprise worth $100 million is planned.
In total, 14 new projects amounting to $1.2 billion have been formed in the region. Their implementation will create 12,000 jobs and generate export revenues of 82 million USD.
The President supported these initiatives and gave instructions for the accelerated implementation of the projects. He emphasized the need to evenly enhance the investment attractiveness and export potential of each city and district.
