Today, more than 10 million residents of Uzbekistan actively participate in mass sports. Various competitions are regularly held in districts, educational institutions, and workplaces.
The goal is to raise this figure to 15 million. To achieve this, tournaments such as the “Mahalla League”, “School League”, “Student League”, “Minister’s Cup”, and “Trade Union Cup” will be organized.
At a videoconference meeting on February 13 this year, the President gave instructions regarding young athletes’ selection and skills development. In line with these directives, work has begun to elevate the system of talent identification, sports education, and Olympic training to a new level.
The 254 sports schools operating across the regions and 56 specialized schools focused on Olympic disciplines will play a key role in this process. These institutions will serve as the main base for the national teams. Young talents selected locally will undergo targeted training based on their anthropometric data and physical abilities.
To further develop their skills, a series of competitions titled “Olympic Heights of New Uzbekistan” will be held twice a year. Winners of the regional stages will qualify for the “Presidential Olympiad”, which will be held annually in December at the Olympic Village. Winners will be awarded valuable prizes such as housing and automobiles. Those who take first and second place will gain the right to study at the Republican Olympic and Paralympic Training Centers.
The President emphasized the importance of improving the vertical sports education system and introducing advanced methods and approaches. Instructions were given to enhance the effectiveness of sports schools and train talented youth to the level of high-performance athletes.
