Construction activities in Uzbekistan have not stopped despite the difficult situation caused by the pandemic. One after another, large-scale projects are being launched to improve the quality and comfort of people’s lives.

The first stage of the aboveground metro has been launched this year on the eve of Independence Day. Another important link of the new transport system, Sergeli line, has also been launched.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev became acquainted with the new metro line on December 26. A dialogue was held with representatives of state and public organizations and media.

“This year has brought difficulties for the economy, for our people, their influence is still felt. But we do our best to mitigate these difficulties as much as possible by consulting each day. We are looking for ways to develop the economy, new markets, and sources of income for people. All issues will be resolved in the context of mahallas. Why? All the opportunities and all the omissions can be seen on the example of a mahalla”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

Measures taken to ensure price stability in the market and increase energy capacity were noted.

“Thanks to the media representatives. They are friends, not enemies of the state. If they do not speak loudly about justice and truth, officials will “get off the ground”. All leaders should remember that they are from among this people, children of this nation. We must value peace in the country and create decent conditions for our people”, the President noted.

Together with public representatives, the Head of the state traveled by train and got familiar with conditions created for passengers.

This metro line project started in 2017. The construction process was under the constant attention of the Head of the state.

Five stations have been built on a 7-kilometer-long line. At the junction of the line with Olmazor station of Chilanzar line, a 580-meter tunnel-bundle was laid, underground and aboveground passages were built.

The stations are decorated in the national style, equipped with modern appliances, electronic turnstiles, escalators, and elevators. The line will be serviced by a staff of 214 people.

The line is capable of carrying up to 35 thousand passengers per day. Therefore, it is of great economic, social and environmental importance. For example, the highway connecting Sergeli district with the center of the capital, in most cases, is overloaded, cars are in traffic. As a result, harmful emissions into the atmosphere increase. People do not reach their destination on time, they get nervous. In this regard, the new aboveground metro line will create great amenities for the population.

The connection of Sergeli line with the Quyliq line, construction of the next stages of the metro was presented at the last station.

“Could anyone even imagine that the metro would come to Sergeli?! So, today there is a great convenience for our people. It is environmentally friendly transport. The following lines also need to be convenient for the population, safe and of high-quality, to study foreign experience”, the Head of the state stressed.

Instructions were given to improve the public transport system and synchronize the movement of buses in the densely populated areas of the capital – Qoraqamish, Ibn Sino and Tashkent Tractor Plant.

The President also became familiar with a sports ground organized under one of the elevated metro platforms.
