A bill developed by the LDPR will be submitted to the State Duma, which provides for a ban on migrant workers transporting family members to Russia.

The bill provides for a ban on foreigners entering the country if they are relatives of those working in Russia. This applies to low-skilled professionals who are in the country only on the basis of an employment contract or patent. The exceptions will be family members of highly qualified foreign workers, writes gazeta.ru.

"The families of migrant workers should be waiting for them at home. When they come to Russia, the relatives of employed foreigners live in compact enclaves, speak their own language, and treat local residents with disdain," explained LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky.

He also added that such migrant apartments often do not pay for utilities, accumulating significant debts that fall on the shoulders of other owners.

The State Duma also discussed an initiative to raise the personal income tax for migrants working under a patent to 30%. Parliamentarians supporting this initiative believe that two thirds of migrants in Russia work under a patent and send their earned money home. They believe that the income of foreigners should remain in the Russian budget.
