On January 25, 2022, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the launch of a call for applications from researchers and research groups within the framework of the Program to Support Initiatives in the Field of Applied Research. The initiative is implemented by the USAID Agribusiness Development Project and is aimed at supporting the scientific community of Uzbekistan in conducting practical research to solve existing challenges in the field of agribusiness.

Applied research is a source of knowledge and innovation in agriculture. They help to discover new technologies, increase farm productivity and improve the quality of food. In Uzbekistan, farmers and private enterprises often lack the support of the scientific community and access to innovative solutions. By establishing interaction between the academic community and agribusiness, USAID will promote the use of new technologies by farmers and private enterprises, which will further increase their competitiveness.

The USAID Agribusiness Development Project accepts applications from qualified applicants for research and development of scientific articles for further publication in scientific journals. The proposals may include improving the curricula of universities, as well as technologies and techniques that can be used in agribusiness. It is planned to finance applications for up to 30 million soums. USAID welcomes applications from qualified women researchers and women's research groups within the framework of this competition.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 1, 2022. The announcement and the application template can be downloaded from the link.

The USAID Agribusiness Development Project is a five-year project implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and aimed at supporting the growth of the share of the private sector in the country's agriculture through the introduction of new technologies and management methods in the entire value chain of selected fruit and vegetable products. These efforts will focus on increasing the volume of value-added products in Uzbekistan, involving women and youth, connecting educational institutions with the needs of the private sector and promoting the creation of favorable conditions for the development of agriculture.
