According to Report, this was announced on the social network X by the country's president Claudia Sheinbaum.

"The Ministry of the Navy informed me that, unfortunately, 13 people died as a result of the interoceanic train accident. 98 were injured, 5 of them are in serious condition," she wrote.

The Mexican Navy said there were 250 people on the train, including nine crew members and 241 passengers.

The incident occurred between the cities of Civela and Nizanda. The Mexican Attorney General's Office has already launched an investigation into the incident.
