According to law enforcement agencies, since 2022, more than 153 thousand crimes have been committed through Telegram, of which 33 thousand relate to sabotage, terrorism and extremism.

The security services managed to prevent 475 terrorist attacks, including 61 attempted mass attacks in schools and the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall in March 2024, which claimed the lives of 149 people. This was reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta with reference to FSB materials.

Roskomnadzor sent the Telegram administration more than 150,000 demands for the removal of illegal content, a significant part of which remained unanswered. Since 2021, the company has been fined more than 141 million rubles. In August 2025, Russia restricted voice calls in the messenger, after which the number of cybercrimes decreased by 23%. Since February 10, 2026, an additional 55% degradation of traffic has been introduced.

The department stated that Telegram's privacy policy and refusal to transfer data at the request of Russian authorities posed a threat to public safety. Earlier, it was also reported about plans to gradually slow down the messenger in Russia.
