The 70th meeting of the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the CIS member States was held in Tashkent

    On October 3, 2024, the 70th anniversary meeting of the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the CIS member States took place.

    The event was attended by heads and authorized representatives of the national statistical services of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee.

    The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Council, Director of the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Nurmakhmadzoda Jamshed, the press service of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the CIS Executive Committee reports.

    Mikhail E. Myskin, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation, spoke at the meeting.

    During the Council meeting, special attention was paid to issues related to the implementation and expansion of the CIS Statistics Development Project. The main objectives of the Project are the development of statistical methodology in the Commonwealth, the creation of an international statistical hub, the use of microdata for modeling and forecasting, as well as the formation of a statistical community within the CIS.

    In his speech, Mikhail Myskin noted that the implementation of this Project is one of the main tasks facing the Council in 2024-2025.

    In addition, important tasks are to make comparisons based on the purchasing power parity of currencies in the CIS region according to data for 2024, as well as the formation of food resource balances in the CIS countries.

    A significant area of work of the Council and the CIS Statistical Committee is also the preparation of information on the main target macroeconomic indicators for the development of the economies of the CIS member states. The results of this analysis are used as part of the implementation of measures to preserve macroeconomic stability and strengthen foreign trade relations, and ensure the stability of financial markets within the Commonwealth. In this regard, it is especially important for States to provide timely information on these indicators to the CIS Statistical Committee.

    It was noted that the CIS Executive Committee highly appreciates the activities of both the Council and the CIS Statistical Committee. Over the years, they have done significant work aimed at developing statistics within the Commonwealth and strengthening international cooperation in the statistical field. The CIS Executive Committee, for its part, will continue to provide comprehensive assistance and support to their activities.

    According to the results of the meeting, the relevant decisions were made.
