"I swear by Commander Hugo Chavez," Delcy Rodriguez told the Venezuelan National Assembly in the capital Caracas, deploring the capture of Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores.
"I came with pain in my heart because of the abduction of two heroes whom we have as hostages in the United States of North America," she said, referring to the president and the first lady.
Maduro and Flores were captured in the early hours of Saturday morning during an operation by American troops, after which they were taken out of the country to New York, where they appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on charges of drug and weapons trafficking.
After Maduro's capture, Venezuela's Supreme Court ordered Vice President Rodriguez to assume the post of acting president "immediately." US President Donald Trump has promised to establish US control over the country at the moment, including through the deployment of American troops, if necessary. aa.com.tr.
