The jewelry industry is reaching an industrial scale of production

On March 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Namangan region.

The Head of state first visited the Gavkhar Group in Yangi Namangan district. It is capable of industrially producing 1,200 kilograms of jewelry per year.

The jewelry business of Uzbekistan has existed since ancient times. In particular, in Namangan, families passed on this art from generation to generation. However, due to the lack of necessary conditions and difficulties in purchasing raw materials, many jewelers stopped their activities. Those who remained made products by hand.

The Presidential Decree of May 18, 2019 “On measures to accelerate the development of the jewelry industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan” has opened up vast opportunities for representatives of the sphere. In particular, jewelry manufacturers were given the right to purchase scrap precious metals and precious stones, as well as products made from them, from mining, metallurgical plants, and the population. Support was provided to attract technologies and specialists from abroad.

Such attention and opportunities gave confidence to jewelers. In particular, Gavkhar Group LLC was established. Modern equipment was brought from Türkiye, Italy, the United States, and Germany, and in 2022 the company began its activities.

Today, the company has mastered the production of 10,000 varieties of jewelry. In cooperation with foreign partners, the production of high-quality gold watch cases has been established. In 2023, 270 kilograms of products were manufactured.

In addition, it produces custom-made products of any shape using 3D modeling.

Purchasing gold on a commodity exchange with deferred payment is essential for ensuring working capital adequacy and production continuity.

Another important aspect is that the company has established cooperation with local jewelers. As a result, those who previously worked informally came out of the “shadow”, and the number of jobs increased. The company employs more than 100 people. Here, young people learn a craft.

The Head of state talked with the jewelers working at the enterprise.

“In Uzbekistan, 100 tons of gold are mined annually. The sale of gold to entrepreneurs in installments is allowed. This opportunity does not exist in other countries. However, only 6 percent of our gold is processed. Non-gold-producing countries export more jewelry than we do. We are a little behind in this area. Therefore, we create additional conditions for production. And this is just the beginning. We will continue to develop this industry”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

Views were also exchanged with Turkish business people, and issues of improving legislation in this area were discussed.

The Head of state also got acquainted with the products of Mekhmash LLC.

This enterprise produces 20 thousand tons of screws and 18 thousand tons of rolled paper per year, having an export potential of $6 million. It employs 700 people.

Instructions were given regarding increasing the production and export of fasteners used in the automotive industry and expanding the number of jobs.
