Bild: EU is preparing a proposal to ban cigarettes

The Council of the European Union is preparing a proposal to ban electronic cigarettes and tobacco products with a filter according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the Report, this follows from the documents available to the Bild newspaper.

The EU Council will support the WHO guidelines on "reducing the attractiveness of cigarettes." Brussels will propose a "ban on the production, import, and distribution of filtered cigarettes." The ban on e-cigarettes will be an "additional regulatory option."

It is noted that the proposed measures will lead to serious consequences for the tobacco market and the relevant regulations in the European Union. In Germany alone, Bild points out, about 95% of cigarettes have filters. Thus, possible new EU measures "amount to an actual ban on cigarettes."
