On August 5, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation of proposals for maintaining and repairing internal roads.

The country has 184,582 kilometers of roads, of which almost 142 thousand kilometers are internal roads.

Over the past four years, 15 trillion UZS have been allocated for constructing and repairing internal roads. Streets in mahallas and remote villages are also being improved to serve the population’s well-being. However, there is no system responsible for their maintenance.

This is because the Committee for the Roads deals with roads and bridges of national and international importance. Internal roads and bridges are on the balance sheet of local hokimiyats. Currently, 43 thousand kilometers of internal roads need repair, and the structure responsible for maintaining 2,354 bridges has not been clearly defined.

Therefore, a system will be created to address these issues at the district level. According to the proposal, 208 district and city improvement departments will organize services to maintain internal roads. They will be provided with 4 types of the most necessary special equipment. For this purpose, allocating the corresponding funds from the budget is envisaged.

As the analysis shows, each sum allocated for road maintenance reduces repair costs several times. If funds are allocated promptly and internal roads are appropriately operated, their service life between repairs will increase by at least 2 times.

In this regard, responsible persons have been instructed to introduce new mechanisms for financing the maintenance and repair of internal roads. The need to continue work on repairing existing and constructing new internal roads based on the population’s needs was emphasized.
