An international symposium on the rational use of water resources, held in the capital of India, presented the essence and significance of the initiatives put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the recent UN climate change conference held in the United Arab Emirates.

This traditional forum is hosted by the Indian information portal Sarkaritel.com in cooperation with the ministries and departments of this country, UN agencies and various international organizations, the news agency "Dunyo" reports.

The event focuses on the issues of rational use of water resources, the joint fight against climate change and other topical environmental issues.

The participants of the forum met with great interest information about the consistent measures being taken in Uzbekistan to solve environmental problems. These issues are reflected in the large-scale reforms implemented in our country in recent years. In his speech at the UN Conference on Climate Change, the President of Uzbekistan once again drew the attention of the world community to this urgent problem.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that climate change has become the most important challenge on the path of sustainable development, the consequences of this process are especially acutely felt in Central Asia due to the Aral tragedy, the forum said.

It was noted that problems such as rising air temperatures, an increase in the number of extremely hot days, the loss of a third of the glacier area, lack of drinking water, air pollution, reduced biodiversity, and reduced agricultural yields negatively affect the lives of the population of the Central Asian region.

The international symposium highly appreciated the fact that Uzbekistan is developing an Adaptation Strategy on the platform of the Central Asian Dialogue and, based on a resolution of the UN General Assembly, intends to reformat the Aral Sea region from an environmental crisis zone into a zone of innovation, technology and new opportunities.

It was also noted that the implementation of the initiatives put forward by the head of Uzbekistan will serve the goals of ensuring a sustainable, prosperous and secure future.
