One of the
key meetings was with Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Brics Development
Bank. During the talks, the parties discussed the prospects for expanding
cooperation in financing green economy projects, sustainable infrastructure and
adaptation to climate change.
Aziz
Abdukhakimov noted that Uzbekistan attaches great importance to the new
Development Bank as a leading multilateral financial institution supporting
sustainable development and environmental transformation. It was emphasized
that under the leadership of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat
Mirziyoyev, the country is implementing large-scale reforms aimed at building a
green economy, strengthening climate resilience and achieving Sustainable
Development Goals.
The parties
discussed the possibilities of expanding practical cooperation in the fields of
renewable energy, sustainable water resources management, environmental
protection and climate adaptation. Special attention was paid to promising
investment projects that could help promote Uzbekistan's green agenda and
strengthen the climate resilience of the entire Central Asian region.
During the
meeting, national environmental initiatives and goals until 2030 were
presented, providing for the planting of one billion trees and shrubs,
expanding the area of protected natural areas to 21 percent of the country's
territory, creating arboretum parks in each region, increasing waste recycling
to 40 percent, reducing pollutant emissions and improving environmental
literacy among young people.
Separately,
the ecosystem of environmental education and science created in Uzbekistan was
presented, which unites research institutes, centers and a network of
specialized "green" technical schools under the auspices of the
Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change
(Green University).
Prospects
for cooperation with the New Development Bank in the implementation of projects
to restore degraded lands, combat desertification and develop
climate-sustainable water resources management were also discussed. In particular,
a project on the implementation of rainwater harvesting systems and
water-saving technologies aimed at improving the efficiency of water resources
use in the context of climate change was presented.
At a
meeting with Balash Hendrich, Executive Director of the Representative Office
of the Organization of Turkic States, and Dr. Laszlo Orloci, Chairman of the
Supervisory Board of the Institute for Drought Prevention of the Organization
of Turkic States, the parties discussed the implementation of the initiatives
of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan announced at the informal summit
of the Organization of Turkic States in Shusha, including the proposal to
establish a Turkic ecological council with Headquarters in Nukus, the Region

Special
attention was paid to adaptation to climate change, prevention of droughts,
land degradation and sand and dust storms. The Uzbek side presented plans to
create national and regional early warning systems for sand and dust storms, as
well as the National Center for Climate and Hydrometeorology, which will become
a platform for integrating climate data, hydrometeorological information and
scientific research in order to manage climate risks.
During the
talks, prospects for cooperation in the field of drought monitoring, risk
assessment, predictive modeling and the use of modern technologies for remote
sensing of the Earth and climate analytics were discussed. Special interest was
expressed in the implementation of pilot projects in devastated regions,
primarily in the Aral Sea region, as well as in organizing experience exchange
programs, training specialists and strengthening institutional capacity.
Aziz
Abdukhakimov also invited representatives of the Organization of Turkic States
to take an active part in Eco Expo Central Asia 2027, which is being held in
Tashkent as part of the Tashkent International Investment Forum. In particular,
an initiative was put forward to create a special platform "desert Economy
startup Corner" within the framework of the exhibition, where innovative
start-ups and technological solutions in the field of combating
desertification, restoring land, increasing water efficiency and developing a
sustainable economy in arid areas will be presented.
