A potentially dangerous asteroid will fly over the Earth

Asteroid 2003 AY2, the size of a skyscraper, will approach the planet this Sunday. Despite the relatively safe distance, the object is considered potentially dangerous.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, asteroid 2003 AY2, which is classified as potentially dangerous, will approach the Earth. This is reported by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).

According to astronomers, the object is approximately 393 meters long, which is almost like a 100-storey skyscraper. The asteroid will fly closest to Earth at a distance of almost 5.43 million kilometers.

Although at first glance such a distance may seem large, according to the NASA classification, all objects approaching less than 7.5 million kilometers and measuring more than 150 meters are considered potentially dangerous.

Asteroid 2003 A2 falls under both of these criteria, however, scientists reassure: currently there is no direct threat of a collision with the Earth. korrespondent.net.
