For the first time since 2016, the Republic of Uzbekistan has been re-included into the Global Innovation Index

    The report of the Global Innovation Index 2020 was published on September 2 this year.

    Among Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan ranked 77th with the highest score (28.56 points). The next places are in following order: Uzbekistan (24.54 points, 93rd place), Kyrgyzstan (24.51 points, 94th place) and Tajikistan (22.23 points, 109th place).

    Comparing the results of 2015 and 2020 on the components of the GII index of Uzbekistan, the country achieved a positive change in 4 of the 7 components, and considered a negative change in 3. In particular, the indicators on the quality of institutions, human capital and research activities, infrastructure and market sophistication components increased by 6.1 points, 0.5 points, 9.5 points and 10.5 points, respectively. Indicators on components such as business sophistication, Knowledge and technology outputs, and creative outputs fell by 4.8 points, 13.1 points, and 1 point, respectively, inform Information service Ministry of Finance.

    For information: The GII index has been published annually since 2007 by Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, INSEAD, and World Intellectual Property. The index consists of 7 sub-components and 80 indicators, providing information on the multifaceted aspects of economic growth based on innovation. To date, the GII has become one of the most important comparative tools for politicians, investors, and other stakeholders to assess annual innovation progress.
