The event
was organized at the initiative of the Uzbek company “Prestige Travel” together
with the Tourism Committee. It was attended by representatives of leading
travel companies and hotel brands in Mauritius, as well as local tour
operators. During the meeting, issues related to launching joint tourism
projects and developing bilateral cooperation were discussed.
According
to the plan, at the first stage, on December 26 and in January, a total of four
flights will be operated on the “Tashkent – Mauritius – Tashkent” route.
Starting in June 2027, it is planned to launch regular weekly flights on this
route.
The new
route not only opens up a new market for Uzbekistan’s tourism industry on the
African continent but also enhances Tashkent’s potential as a transit hub for
directing passenger traffic from Central Asian countries and the CIS to
Mauritius. In the future, tourists from Kazakhstan, Russia, and other CIS
countries will be able to fly to Mauritius via Tashkent.
“The new
flights are of great importance for increasing mutual tourist flows. At the
same time, they open up the Mauritius market as a new destination for
Uzbekistan’s tourism.” A significant part of Mauritius’s population consists of
members of the Indian‑Muslim community, which creates
promising opportunities for the development of pilgrimage and gastronomic
tourism. In this regard, opportunities are expanding to create special tourist
products for visitors to Mauritius, including the historical and cultural
heritage of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Tashkent, shrines associated with
Islamic civilization, as well as traditions of national cuisine,” noted Oybek
Akhmedov, the founder of Prestige Travel.
Air service
is being launched as part of the “Open Tourism Season” program, which is
implemented annually from June to August starting in 2026. The program provides
for financial support measures for participants in the tourism market: air
carriers opening new routes are granted a subsidy of 100 US dollars for each
foreign tourist they attract, as well as a 20 percent discount on airport
services. Local tour operators are allocated a subsidy of 5,000 US dollars for
every 1,000 tourists attracted from non‑neighboring countries.
