Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin visited the Victory Park Memorial Complex in Tashkent as part of the Uzbekistan – Russia Summit.

The multinational peoples of our countries carefully preserve the memory of the centuries-old common history and its bright pages, including Victory in the Second World War.

Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the principle “In the name of human honor and dignity” has been elevated to the absolute priority of the reform program. In particular, to perpetuate the memory of the heroism of Uzbek citizens on the battlefields and selfless work in the rear, Victory Park was opened on May 9, 2020, on the initiative of the Head of state.

The vast territory of the complex is divided into several zones, each with its emotional coloring – the horrors of war and the heroism of soldiers, the perseverance and dedication of home front workers, grief and sadness, joy and gratitude.

During the visit, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia honored the memory of the fallen soldiers by laying wreaths at the Ode to Fortitude Monument, erected in memory of the widow Zulfiya Zakirova, who lost five sons in the war.

At the highest point of the complex – at the top of an artificial mound – is a sculptural composition titled “Eternal Feat”. It is a monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General Sabir Rakhimov, and all Uzbek soldiers who participated in World War II.

The park’s main pavilion, the Museum of Glory, is inside the mound. It houses exhibits dedicated to the history of Uzbekistan’s participation in the war.

The leaders got acquainted with the rich exhibition of the museum and noted the importance of caring for the shared memory of the heroic past. It was emphasized that reverence for historical heritage plays a key role in instilling patriotism among young people and strengthening cultural ties between peoples.

The scale and majesty of Victory Park made a significant impression on the Russian delegation members.
