On December 15, the Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva, held a meeting with senior officials, during which topical issues of protecting the rights of women and children, countering violence against them, as well as the causes of early pregnancy and measures to prevent it were discussed.

It was noted that Uzbekistan became the first country in Central Asia to adopt a law on combating domestic violence, as well as toughen responsibility for sexual crimes against children. However, it was stressed that the measures taken were insufficient.

"We can't stop. It is necessary to create an effective system of rapid response to every act of violence. Often the real picture remains hidden: we are afraid of statistics, penalties, negative evaluation, and are not ready to accept criticism. However, human fate is much more important than any indicators," Saida Mirziyoyeva emphasized.

She called on all responsible leaders to draw appropriate conclusions and stressed that an irreconcilable fight against all forms of violence, as well as effective protection of the rights and interests of women and children, should be conducted not in words, but in practice.
