Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets with the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission

    On October 22, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as a candidate for President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with the Head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) Eoghan Murphy.

    The Bureau is one of the leading institutions of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the mandate of which covers issues of ensuring the observance of fundamental human rights and freedoms, contributing to strengthening the democratic institutions and civil society.

    ODIHR has been participating in the observation of the presidential and parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan since 1999. In December 2016, the Bureau sent a full-scale mission to Uzbekistan for the first time to observe the presidential elections.

    A similar delegation arrived in Uzbekistan for the current presidential elections. The joint International Mission includes observers from the Bureau, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament.

    At the meeting, views were exchanged on the issues of conducting democratic reforms, improving the electoral legislation and the electoral process, as well as preparing and holding the upcoming important political event in accordance with international norms and standards.

    The priority directions of the pre-election platform of the presidential candidate from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan were also considered.
