Since the beginning of the year, Telegram has blocked more than 7.2 million groups and channels. By early December 2025, the platform had blocked nearly 40 million groups and channels, 894,324 of which contained child abuse material.
Telegram notes that since 2015, its moderation has included "proactive monitoring" based on user reports and machine learning. At the beginning of 2024, these efforts were augmented with AI-based moderation tools, reported by 24.kg.
