Penalties for corruption crimes are being increased

    At the thirty-ninth plenary session of the Senate, the Law "On amendments and additions to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring the inevitability of responsibility for corruption crimes" was considered.

    It was noted that the Criminal Code is supplemented with a new term "corruption crimes", according to which the acts provided for in the relevant articles, parts and paragraphs of the Code are recognized as corruption crimes, and provides for increased punishment for these crimes.

    In addition, by introducing amendments to the relevant articles of the Criminal Code by this Law to persons convicted of embezzlement by embezzlement or embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion or other mandatory payments and who have not fully compensated for the damage caused by the crime and persons who have committed such crimes as taking a bribe, giving a bribe, mediation in bribery, such norms as conditional early release from punishment and replacement of punishment with a milder one do not apply.

    In accordance with the Law, the imposition of punishment in the form of imprisonment for crimes related to bribery of an employee of a state body and organization, a self-government body of citizens, a non-governmental commercial organization is established. The changes are important because they are aimed at a consistent fight against corruption and ensuring the inevitability of punishment for the commission of this crime.

    The senators also stressed that the amendments introduced serve to clearly define corruption crimes and develop systematic measures to counteract these types of crimes, prevent corruption crimes, establish fair punishment for persons who have committed corruption crimes, as well as reliable protection of the rights and interests of victims of crime.

    Following the discussion, the Law was approved by senators.
