Uzbekistan - Saudi Arabia discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation

    On March 23, Minister of Innovative Development Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov met with Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Khalid al-Falih at the Hilton Hotel in Tashkent.

    During the meeting, the parties discussed the state and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of science, technology and innovation. In particular, Minister Khalid Al-Falih noted that Saudi Arabia has been working hard for 20-25 years to create and develop an innovation ecosystem, and this experience can be useful for Uzbekistan.

    At the same time, it was noted that the establishment of relations between the Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, the City of Science and Technology named after King Abdulaziz can give a great impetus to the exchange of knowledge and experience between scientists and innovators.

    In turn, the Minister of Innovative Development I. Abdurakhmonov put forward a proposal to organize a competition of joint scientific projects between scientists of the two countries, as well as competitions of startup projects among entrepreneurs.

    The parties also discussed cooperation between technoparks, science and innovation support funds and venture funds, the development of a program for Uzbek scientists to conduct doctoral research in Saudi Arabia, as well as internships for young scientists in leading research institutions of the kingdom.

    Following the meeting, the Minister of Investments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Khalid al-Falih invited the Minister of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia to discuss the above agreements and new areas of cooperation, the press service of the Ministry of Innovation reports.
